Police rescue animals in La Linea, arrest man for cruelty
Horses, pigs and a dog left abandoned in a plot of land in La Línea were rescued by the Spanish police, who also arrested their owner.
A statement from Policía Nacional said the 12 horses, three pigs and a dog were left with no food or water and were found covered in faeces.
Officers were called to the plot of land in Zabal after receiving complaints of a stench of decay and came across the remains of several horses and a mare that was in pain.
A vet was called to the scene to help the animals and were found to be starving and dehydrated.
The animals were taken to a protection centre for domestic animals in Campo de Gibraltar.
They are currently being cared for before they will be put up for adoption or to an equine centre.
Meanwhile, their owner, a 61-year old man was arrested on suspicion of cruelty to animals.
