Put constitutional reform ‘on hold’ until after EU referendum - Feetham

Plans for a review of Gibraltar’s 2006 Constitution should be left until after the UK’s referendum on EU membership, Opposition leader Daniel Feetham has said.

The potential for major changes in the UK’s relationship with Europe means it may be “premature” to think about constitutional reform until after the vote.

“If the UK exits the EU, or has its relationship with the EU redefined, that may necessitate a rethink in Gibraltar about our relationship with the United Kingdom,” he told the Chronicle.

“Proceeding with constitutional reform at a time when you've got these questions about the relationship of the United Kingdom within Europe, I don't think that's the best way to deal with it.”

“First of all we see what happens in the United Kingdom, deal with whatever comes out of that, and then we look at the question of constitutional reform.”
