RA exhibition helps put Gib on cultural map

Gibraltar’s Royal Academy show officially opened this week at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery. The exhibition ‘Lines and Colours’ features Royal Academicians Barbara Rae, Ann Christopher and Anne Desmet.

Their work fills up three of the vaults in the gallery showing three very different styles of work. All three artists have adjudicated Gibraltar’s International Art Exhibition.

Opening the exhibition Culture Minister Steven Linares said he was delighted to see this landmark show adding an international edge to the Rock’s art scene.

“This is first for the Rock and it is an honour and pleasure for me to have three academia’s from the RA exhibiting here,” he said.

“We want Gibraltar to be on the cultural map and it is important for us not only to export our art but that we bring world famous artists here as well,” said Mr Linares who insisted this formed part of fostering and developing art and culture locally.

This, he added, was just the beginning.
