‘Reinforce cross-border relations’ in face of Brexit, Manley says

Simon Manley, Britain’s ambassador to Spain, said the UK and Spain must work together to “reinforce relations” in the face of Brexit, adding that London’s position on Gibraltar “is clear”.

Mr Manley, who in recent interviews has repeatedly reinforced Britain’s sovereignty commitment to Gibraltar, was speaking at a seminar on Brexit organised by Cadena Ser in Málaga.

The focus of the event was the wider impact of Brexit on Andalucia, but Mr Manley was asked about Gibraltar.

He acknowledged that Gibraltar had “a very close relationship” with Andalucia, highlighting the thousands of Spanish workers employed on the Rock and the fact that any Gibraltarians shopped and spent leisure time in Spain.
