‘Stroll n Roll’ raises awareness for cerebral palsy

Over 60 people participated in a ‘Stroll n Roll’ from Piazza to Casemates raising awareness of cerebral palsy.

People were encouraged to wear green to support the campaign and the group held banners as they walked down Main Street.

This was the second annual walk for cerebral palsy held by the group.

Cerebral palsy occurs before, during or shortly after birth and affects muscle control and movement. The effects can vary greatly from person to person, and last Monday people in Gibraltar came together to raise awareness of the condition.

Kyle Porro, aged 13, has mild cerebral palsy and spoke to the Chronicle about his condition.

“For me it’s to do with my legs, some of my muscles are kind of shorter and they get tight,” he said.

He added that as the years pass the condition of his legs can improve or deteriorate.

“It is harder to walk for a long time, with some sports I either don’t take part or I can’t take part as I am going to end up hurt,” he said.

Kyle has been part of the cerebral palsy awareness group for a few years and said it was helpful to speak to other people with cerebral palsy.

He also found it helpful to discuss tips with his physiotherapist and other people in the group on how they manage the condition.
