Together we rise: World Netball launches brand for Netball World Youth Cup 2025 Gibraltar

By Stephen Ignacio
The official brand and logo of the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 were unveiled at an event in Grand Battery House on Wednesday, just over a year before Gibraltar hosts the major international games.
The occasion brought together dignitaries from across Gibraltar sports alongside Europe Netball and World Netball representatives and put a spotlight on mounting excitement as the games edge closer and preparations step up.
World Netball and the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 [NWYC2025] Local Organising Committee (LOC), alongside the hosts Gibraltar Netball, revealed the official brand and logo for what was described as the pinnacle World Netball competition for emerging athletes aged 21 and under, which will take place from September 19-28, 2025.
“The brand for the NWYC2025 uniquely embodies the essence of the territory situated on the southern top of the Iberian Peninsula in Europe, with the letter 'R' in the typography mirroring the iconic Rock of Gibraltar when viewed from the north,” World Netball said in a statement.
“The graphic patterns, inspired by Gibraltar's sky, rock, and sea, add depth and local symbolism to the brand, enriching the visual narrative of the event with the natural beauty of the host country.”
Speaking at the launch, Gibraltar Netball President Moira Gomez said: "We are thrilled to unveil the brand and logo for the Netball World Youth Cup 2025 Gibraltar, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards hosting an unforgettable event.”
"As we prepare to welcome teams and fans from around the world, this emblem serves as a beacon of inspiration, uniting us all in the celebration of youth, athleticism, and empowerment."
World Netball Board Director for Europe, Lyn Carpenter, added: “Gibraltar is in a very unique and special position - this will be the first Netball World Youth Cup since 2017, because our 2021 edition was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic.
“Netball has grown so much since 2017, with the Netball World Cup held in Cape Town South Africa last year delivering the most successful sponsorship programme to date and our broadcast and communications reaching more people than ever before…”
“This is Gibraltar’s time to show our Netball Family around the world that this growth was just the beginning.”
“In a bid to bring the event to more people than ever before World Netball has this cycle made the Netball World Cup social media channels the home of the NWYC too, bringing its two pinnacle events together.”
Among the guests were Minister for Sport Leslie Bruzon and his opposite number in the GSD, Edwin Reyes.
Also present were Mayor Carmen Gomez attending alongside Reagan Lima, CEO of the Gibraltar Sports and Leisure Authority.
Tuesday’s event highlighted the importance of the games coming to Gibraltar. bringing also with it to the forefront the role played by women in local sport.
The World Youth Netball Championship is among the biggest events to be hosted on the Rock since the Island Games five years ago.
It also comes at a time when Gibraltar Netball is looking towards plans to have a home of its own, something which the Government had signalled among its manifesto commitments at the last election.
Mr Lima, the GSLA CEO, highlighted how this week was not just a ‘first step’ but also a milestone as Gibraltar told the world it was not just thinking of hosting such an event but that it was “actually happening.”
Mr Bruzon thanked Ms Carpenter and World Netball for having shown the confidence in allowing Gibraltar to host the event.
“It will show that Gibraltar can deliver,” he said.
A video presentation, which included the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, provided the final message, which will be the key message in the games: Together we rise.
The launch came just under a month ahead of Gibraltar Netball’s biggest test yet, which will be used to gauge the organisational structures being planned for 2025.
Next month, Gibraltar Netball hosts the Europe Netball U17 Championships and Challenge Opens with major players such as England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland among the teams converging on the Rock.
Although the tournament next month is a fraction the size of what is expected in 2025, international officials will now have all eyes focused upon Gibraltar to ensure the 2025 Games meets the expectations already set by Gibraltar when hosting major netball tournaments.
This year’s event also being used as a launching pad to promote events in 2025.
It will also be the first time Gibraltar Netball is tested using two venues to host its tournament, with both Europa Sports Complex and the Tercentenary Sports to be used.
Tuesday evening’s launch at the Grand Battery House was the first major event celebrating Gibraltar’s award of the Games for 2025 since it was confirmed.

All guns blazing towards March and 2025
The path towards this March’s U17 Europe Netball Championship and Challenge tournaments which are to be hosted on the Rock and next years World Netball Youth World Championships, also to be hosted in Gibraltar saw the gears upped a notch this week as Gibraltar Netball readied for its launch.
Just ahead of the official launch of the World Championships, which took place last evening at the Grand Battery as we were going to press, Gibraltar Netball introduced netball fans to its new look promotion for this March’s event.
Moving away from the traditional posters, its new tournament poster was more akin to a major entertainment event as it promoted tickets sales with its a kind of magic poster.
Gibraltar Netball also revealed how two of its young umpires will be centre stage during this March’s tournament as A-Award Umpires.
Lauren Schembri and Siobhan Gregory will be umpiring at the Europe Netball U17 Competition 7-10th March 2024 where Gibraltar will hosts teams from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Malta, United Arab Emirates, Israel and Switzerland.
The tournament is considered a major testing ground for Gibraltar Netball, who are expected to be assessed on their ability to host a major tournament as it prepares for next years Youth World Championships.
The latter is expected to see teams from across the globe with teams travelling from as far afield as Australia to compete for the Youth World title. This the first time Gibraltar will be competing in the competition as the host nation.
