Worry and sadness on Main Street at Brexit news

Gibraltar awoke yesterday to the news that Britain had voted to leave the European Union, and on Main Street the reaction one of shock, anger and sadness.

There was uncertainty as to what the decision would mean in practice, and deep unease about what the future held.

“The first thing I did this morning when I woke up was put the news on and I cried,” said Julie Milburn.

“I was very sad and very depressed, I am sorry to say but that is how I feel.”

“I am very sad. We do not know what is going to happen in the future. I hope it will be for the best, let’s hope and pray.”

Across the community, the news of Brexit left people feeling a numb sense of loss.
