Cross Frontier Group seeks meeting with Borrell

The Cross Frontier Group will be seeking a meeting with Spain’s new Minister for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, in order to ensure he understands the reality of cross-border grassroots relations.

The group said it was “of prime importance” that Mr Borrell understands the situation in this region and the potential impact of Brexit on communities on both sides of the border.

“With the recent important changes in Spanish politics, the Group feels it is fundamentally important that the new [Spanish] Government know at first hand the current socio economic situation that exists in Gibraltar and in the Campo de Gibraltar,” the group said.

“An important factor is also the ties of friendship that exists across both sides of the border.”

“The Cross Frontier Group is perfectly poised for this as it represents all the principal socio economic stakeholders of both the Campo de Gibraltar and Gibraltar.”

“It can serve as the most effective conduit to present the reality of the present situation.”

The Cross Frontier Group held its latest meeting earlier this week, with the agenda dominated by the latest developments in establishing the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation.

“The group has devoted many long hours to this project which will foster cooperation between the communities on both sides of the border,” it said.
