Europa win Pepe Reyes Cup
An early goal by Europa’s Liam Walker was to dictate the better part of the Pepe Reyes Cup.
The match which brought league champions Lincoln Red Imps face Europa in the opening match of the season was to see last season’s runners-up display more fluidity to their game than the league champions for the better part of the match.
Lincoln were on the backfoot from the start after Walker’s half volley left Chino without a chance to stop.
It was Europa who had the better chances throughout the better part of the match. Lincoln did not really find their footing until the latter part when their pressure started to get the ball into more dangerous situations. Coeling at one stage seeing the ball hit the post after he was beaten by a long shot at goal.
The match was the first of two encounters between the two bitter rivals this week. Later in the week they open up their league campaign playing against each other. The match very much a precursor of what is to come this season with tensions showing at times on the field.
Europa was to hold on to their early lead to take the first trophy of the season by the solitary goal.
Liam Walker was to receive the cup from young Tim Reyes the great grandson of Pepe Reyes.
