Gibraltar needs to find a new way of tackling the domestic abuse

Two local shelters operated by Women in Need, the charity which supports people suffering domestic abuse, are full to capacity.

The charity is currently providing a home for 90 Gibraltarians. They include 29 women and 58 children, as well as three men.

Such is the demand that Women in Need sometimes has no option but to turn away people who are desperate for help.

Now, the charity says it is time to find a different way of tackling the problem of domestic abuse in a small community like Gibraltar.

“We should have a multi-agency panel for domestic violence,” said the founder of Women in Need, Claire Borrell.

“We need to all come together and sit down to find a solution.”
