Womens Tennis picks up Gold

Gibraltar women tennis picked up their first gold after beating the Isle of Man in today's Team Event final.
Gibraltar started strong in the women's Team finals against the Isle of man. It was little surprise though after some outstanding performances by Amanda Carreras the previous day to set them up for the finals. Her teammate Lindsey De Haro-Sene also doing the honours.
The Isle of man's first lady out felt the frustrations of having to play what is possibly the women's tennis strongest player at the Island Games.
Starting of of breaking her opponents serve Amanda made it look easy as she eased to a 6-0, 6-0 victory .
Giving few points away in that first match the Isle of man found themselves having to put everything into trying to get their equalising point in their match against Lindsey.
The pressure was on for the second Gibraltar player.
Stating well taking the first game she went on to go to 3-1 up but was overtaken at 4-3. Lindsey fell behind to 5-3.. Lindsey falling 6-3 in the first set.
Lindsey De Haro-sene struggled in the second set having gone down 1- 0. Having brought it back to 1-1 she found herself playing for survival as she went to 5-1 down.
Even with a scorching sun beating down at midday the Isle of Man was proving a tough opponent.
Katie winning it 6-1 and taking it to the decider. It was now up to Amanda Carreras and her partner to find a winning partnership for gold.
The final was to be decided by the doubles team where Amanda was to partner Lindsey.
This was to prove a difficult decision with the two ladies not having played that much together recently.
The Isle of Man was to grab the first points as they led 0-1. Gibraltar came back to equalise but saw their opponents continue to 2-1.
Gibraltar's double team fell behind going 4- 2 down before starting to get their game together as a team .
With Lindsey settling down, playing with Amanda, Gibraltar rose to the occasion and went on to take the set 6-4.
Gibraltar's doubles team set themselves up to lift their game spurred by
the crowd.
The second set saw them go ahead 2- 0 then took it to 4-1 . Going 5- 1 up Gibraltar was playing for the match but the Isle of Man pulled one back. Serving for gold the final points saw a a quick fire last game which saw Gibraltar claim victory in style.
