GIRLI confirmed for MTV Presents Gibraltar Calling
Young talent GIRLI has been confirmed for the line up of the MTV Presents Gibraltar Calling 2018 music festival.
She will perform on Saturday 22nd September alongside chart-topping talent including Stormzy, Rita Ora and Rag’n’Bone Man amongst many others.
The new kid on the block, she is set to infiltrate the music world with her exciting, frenzied flurry of what can only be described as ?urban cyberelectronic sugar dance pop, according to a statement.
GIRLI has kicked in the doors of the musical underground this year with her do-it-yourself, punk like attitude and explosively unforgettable live sets across Europe.
Lead producer of MTV Presents Gibraltar Calling Richard Coram said: “We are very excited to announce that GIRLI will join the star-studded line up at this year’s festival, I bought her London show recently and the energy she has on stage is amazing.”
“We want to introduce tomorrow’s stars today at MTV Presents Gibraltar Calling,” he said adding: “We have more great talent announcements to come both headline and cutting edge new.”
A powerful voice for young female issues her music is influenced by the likes of Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse and Kate Nash.
She weaves complex issues like sexism, misogyny, gender, sexuality and generational difference into her lyrics.
“I think I've just always been very passionate about changing things, changing people's attitudes and changing the world,” she explains.
“In a way, people who have more influence are musicians and creatives.”
“If Adele comes out and says something, people are more likely to listen to her than Theresa May. With social media, as well, there are so many amazing campaigns.”
“It's much easier to be a politician just as you are, you know.”
Her astute lyrical observations and wry humour give them an accessibility missing from much of today’s pop music.
She’s excited to be playing MTV Presents Gibraltar Calling in September, stating "I’m hyped to play MTV Gibraltar Calling - it’s gonna be wild. Plus I’ve been told there are monkeys over there, bonus.”
GIRLI uses her social media platforms candidly, sharing intimate details about her life, such as her struggles with mental health, eating disorders and her sexuality.
