Jersey hopes to follow Gibraltar route into UEFA

The Jersey Football Association has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after UEFA rejected its application to become a member.

Following the UEFA Executive Committee’s refusal to put forward Jersey’s application to its annual congress, on the grounds that it did not believe the JFA met UEFA Statutes relating to “independent states,” the latter has appealed to CAS.

Jersey Football Association hopes to follow in Gibraltar’s footsteps, claiming it has as strong a case as Gibraltar and Kosovo, which recently joined as FIFA members.

Jersey had submitted a bid to join UEFA in December 2015 after Gibraltar and Kosovo were admitted. The Jersey FA, established in 1905, acts as a County Football Association of the English FA.
