Jessy Franco takes gold in 200m

Jessy Franco became the 200m gold medal winner with a 22.47sec time in what was an exhilarating final.
Gibraltar was to miss on a second medal in the same race with Jerai Torres marginally missing out on the bronze as he was edged on the final finish.
It was however Jessy Franco whose story grabbed the biggest attention. Born to one the Island Games love stories Jessy was somewhat of a fairy tale story. His parents had met in the Faroe Islands Games and married.
Jessy Franco, already the national record holder in the same event competed in a field including former medal winners.
A very strong finish saw him stride past the finish line to the standing ovation of a large crowd who had come to watch. Among those attending the The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, Minister for Sport Steven Linares and IIGA President Jorgen Peterson. Also in the stands Amanda Carreras who had herself achieved gold this morning.
Dedicating the gold medal to his coaches Charlie a Flower and his father Fabian Franco Jessy celebrated running down the track flying the Gibraltar flag where he ended embracing his family watching from the sidelines.
