Lincoln Red Imps played Chelsea

The Lincoln Red Imps Under 23s got a chance to play against Premier League side Chelsea’s U18 in a friendly in Marbella this past weekend.
The opportunity, which doesn’t come around to often to play against what are expected to be Premier League potential players was well received by players. The game, reported Lincoln Red Imps official website, “was played in three quarters of 30 minutes meaning goalkeepers Lee Mifsud, Ethan Bonfante and Kian Duffy-Parody all had a chance to play under the watchful eye of coach Kyle ‘Chino’ Goldwin.”
Lee Chipolina, Jona Sciortino, Julian Laguea and Kyle Clinton all had a chance to grab some match practise ahead of the league Champions League second-leg against Qarabag next Wednesday in Baku.
“It was a great experience for our young players to play against one of the greatest academies in England and the perfect test as we look to rebuild our youth team.”
Head coach, Ryan Casciaro reflected on the game - “I believe the team played well, it is a new team that we are building for the future in which we have been training for this match for the past two weeks. Chelsea were superior but the scoreline does not reflect the match, yes they dominated possession but goals came from our mistakes. Saying this i have seen a lot of positives for the upcoming season in which, players and coaching staff are preparing for and improving day by day.”
Captain, Lee Chipolina spoke to us about the experience gained from playing Chelsea - “It was very exciting playing against a side like Chelsea. You don’t get to play against teams like this very often so it was a great experience for all of us. Although the result wasn’t the best, the team gave everything on the pitch and I couldn’t be any prouder of the boys.”
