Mapdance brings challenging new work to the Rock

Some 70 local dancers took part in a series of workshops held on the Rock this weekend by dance student company Mapdance. They also gave a public performance last night at the John Mackintosh Hall Theatre showcasing original works from some of the UK’s up and coming choreographers such as Liz Aggiss, Richard Alston, Lee Brummer and Israel Aloni, Kevin Finnan and Abi Mortime.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary the company, based at the University of Chichester, this year has as one of its main dancers young Gibraltarian Zoe Bishop. Together with the other student dancers in the group she carried out some of the workshops on Sunday and also performed last night. Their visit and public performance was arranged by the Gibraltar Academy of Dance.

Over the years Mapdance has established itself as an exciting company of young, dynamic dancers recruited both in the UK and internationally all undergoing an MA in Dance.

For the first time Gibraltar forms part of the Spring Tour 2016.
