New campaign wants debate on ‘drugs regulation’

The Equality Rights Group and Stay Clean have launched ‘Connected Health’, a group calling for the regulation of drugs and awareness of sexual health.

ERG Chairman Felix Alvarez and Stay Clean founder Damian Broton yesterday outlined the project at Nazareth House to a room of reporters.

The group detailed how although staunchly against the ‘war on drugs’, they were not in favour of legalisation or decriminalisation.

They believe the war on drugs “punishes those most in need” and described it a “war on people”.

The group want to “take back control” by seeing a stop to drugs on the streets and ending the illicit profit on drugs that makes drug lords so wealthy.

They say they want to do this through regulation and have set out their position in a 24-page report.

Yesterday, they were pressed by reporters on how they envisionrf ending punishment for drug users without decriminalisation or legalisation.
