New recruit for port VTS

Gibraltar Port Authority recruit Kaylan Catania is now a qualified Vessel Traffic Services [VTS] Operator after training in the UK.

Mr Catania was appointed VTS Operator in April and over two months studied at the South Tyneside College near Newcastle. He now joins his other colleagues in ensuring navigational safety through constant monitoring of local waters.

Minister for Traffic Paul Balban congratulated Mr Catania on his achievement.

“I wish you a long and happy career with the VTS,” Mr Balban said. “Offering these professional development opportunities to our recruits reinforces the Government’s commitments both to our staff and to maintaining the highest standards of safety in our very busy waters. The two go hand-in-hand.”
