Picardo meets UK’s Brexit minister

Britain’s Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, David Davis, was briefed by Chief Minister Fabian Picardo this week on Gibraltar’s key concerns ahead of Brexit.

Mr Davis, accompanied by Robin Walker, the Minister of State at the department for Brexit, met with Mr Picardo and Deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia in London late Monday evening.

“The Chief Minister outlined the issues that were of importance to Gibraltar in our relationship with the European Union and briefed the Secretary of State on the challenges and the opportunities that lay ahead,” the Gibraltar Government said in a statement.

“Mr Davis expressed his general support for Gibraltar.”

“The discussions are set to continue in detail given the commitment that has been given that Gibraltar will be dealt with at the same level as the Devolved Administrations in the UK.”

Yesterday afternoon the Gibraltar delegation, which included Attorney General Michael Llamas, QC, attended a conference dealing with Brexit issues.

The conference, entitled “Brexit and beyond: Implications for the British Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories”, was organised by the Centre for Small States and Doughty Street Chambers.
