Prior Park students to sing Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall

This Sunday, 12 pupils from Prior Park School will be joining over 1,500 other singers from 40 different schools, youth and university choirs at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall.

The boys and girls aged between 13 and 16 will be singing an abridged version of Handel's Messiah with the award-winning Scratch® Youth Messiah alongside a professional London orchestra and fabulous line-up of young soloists.

The Royal Albert Hall regularly holds prominent music events like the BBC Proms, the Classic Brit Awards and the Teenage Cancer Trust annual concerts.

Event coordinator, Dr Lnenicek-Allen of Prior Park School, has been rehearsing with the students for the past six months.

“The Scratch Youth Messiah event is a brilliant way to introduce young budding singers to this iconic favourite of the UK choral repertoire and at the same time raise money for WaterAid UK, an international charity that is dedicated to transforming lives in poor areas by improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene,” Dr Lnenicek-Allen said.

Young participants are raising donations through WaterAid’s ‘Bottle It’ scheme, by filling empty water bottles with coins.

They have also set up a JustGiving web page for online donations to WaterAid.
