Series of historical lectures in October

The Ministry of Culture together with the Instituto de Estudios Campo-Gibraltareños will be organising a conference on the history of Gibraltar and the Campo de Gibraltar this autumn. The conference will be held at the John Mackintosh Hall.

The Delegation from the Mancomunidad de Municipios were received by Ministers John Cortes, who has worked with the organisation in the past, and Steven Linares, and Director of the John Mackintosh Hall Angela Bula together with technical staff members.

The Conference will take place at the John Mackintosh Hall on the 28, 29 and 30 October this year.

The Delegada del Area de Cultura of the Mancomunidad de Municipios and of the Instituto de Estudios Campogibraltareños , Marina Garcia Peinado, together with the Vice Director and the Secretario – Coordinador of the Organismo Autonomo , were in Gibraltar to make a first contact with the Ministry with the aim of planning the XIII series of lectures relating to the History of the region.

In a statement the Government of Gibraltar said it was pleased to support and host the Lectures in Gibraltar as it has been over 10 years since the Mancomunidad de Municipios had organised this event in Gibraltar.

It added that the organising team was working towards having an important input from Gibraltar authors, as well as authors from Spain who have an interest in Gibraltarian history.

At the meeting, among others things, the schedule for times, dates, protocols, organisation of cultural visits etc., were discussed. The Opening Address for this series of Lectures will be made by Tito Benady, who has recently been honoured with the title of Consejero de Honor of the Institute. He is a Historian and has collaborated with the Institute from its inception, specialising in Gibraltarian History.

The Closing Address will be delivered by D. Luis Alberto del Castillo, who is also Consejero de Honor and Principal Director of the Organismo Autonomo and Cronista Oficial in Algeciras.
