The GameMakers are making it happen

As day two of the Gibraltar 2019 comes to an end the stories behind the scenes continue to emerge. Notably the scenes surrounding the "Games makers.”
Over seven hundred volunteers have for the past three days worked round the clock to make already the first two days of sports events memorable.
From catering to carrying clothes baskets, to guiding competitors and the public around to transporting visiting officials and competitors from place to place.
Dressed in their blue or green polo shirts the "Game makers" have
been hard at work making the Games below.
With attendances high across all the venues the numbers catered for one high from the normal daily routines sports enjoys in Gibraltar.
Across all sites competitors and spectators are greeted not just by well organised events, but also a social welcome including food and hospitality. From the early morning hours to late at night volunteers are working away to cater for the over 3, 000 competitors and officials and the many spectators attending events. With just two days of the sports programme gone by only there have already been many a story to tell.
From volunteer event officials and organisers working from 5.30 am on a Sunday morning to prepare for the triathlon, ranging from as young as 16 year olds to senior citizens, to catering staff working into the early hours of the morning to clear up and prepare for the next morning. One such group even making the decision to camp at the venue at Europa Sports complex instead of treking home only to have to return just a few hours later.
For many especially the sports associations organizing the sports events, whilst not the first time in doing so in organising it has been a new experience hosting hundreds of visitors in what in some cases are homes they have only just started to occupy themselves.
The blue or green polo shirts, which ever they might be wearing masks the extend of assistance which has been recieved. From top ranking Goverment officials , to teachers, senior citizens, company directors, even members of the rugby team and a chess champion, the latter acting as a ball boy today during the womens Team event, Gold champion winning final, his father driving visitors from A to B throughout the day. Even well known coaches in sports associations have picked up a broom to brush away water from the courts as Gibraltar comes together to make the new sunshine games a memorable one.
