Body found in Toc H ruins

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 52-year old man whose body was found in the ruins of the old TOC H hostel.

Officers sealed off the site, which is behind Referendum Gate next to the Gibraltar College, while detectives and forensics specialists recorded the scene.

A post mortem investigation will be conducted this morning to establish the cause of death, although police confirmed the man was found hanged.

The Royal Gibraltar police confirmed the man was a British national but released no details of his identity while they worked to contact next of kin.

The Coroner has also opened an investigation into the death, a routine step in cases where people die in unexplained circumstances.
