Breaking news - GFA warns against teams forfieting due to HGP rules
The Gibraltar FA have issued a warning to clubs of possible severe penalties in the future if further match cancellations are experienced due to teams unable to meet the Home Grown Player rules.
Following the yesterday's first division match forfiet by Boca Juniors Gibraltar FC after they were unable to field the required three home grown players. Gibraltar's domestic league also saw Europa Point FC forfieting today for the same reason in their match against Manchester 62.
The Gibraltar FA, the Governing body for local football has reacted promptly to the latest incidents issuing a statement this evening.
A spokesperson for the Gibraltar FA said today, "The Gibraltar FA is extremely disappointed to note that two Clubs - Boca Juniors (Gibraltar) FC of the First Division and Europa Point FC of the Second Division - have forfeited their league matches this weekend as a result of their failure to have the required minimum number of Home Grown Players available.
The GFA takes a very serious view on this matter and disciplinary proceedings will immediately be launched against both Clubs.
The GFA is fully committed to the Home Grown Player Rule and to the development of Gibraltarian footballers and is sure that going forward the HGP Rule will be respected and adhered to by all our 17 member Clubs. Any failure to do so in future may result in even stricter sanctions being imposed, including the possible expulsion of Clubs from GFA membership and competitions."
Neither of the two teams that have forfieted their matches this weekend have teams in the Intermediate Division or youth leagues leaving both exposed to the limited number of players available in to their senior teams.
In both matches forfieted the top of the respective divisions were affected with Europa FC taking the lead at the top of the first division after receiving all three points. In today's match Manchester 62 now go second in the second division ahead of Europa Point who forfieted their match after not being able to field the thre ehome grown players.
