Carer admits fraudulent Christmas shopping spree

A Spanish caregiver could face jail for fraud after she used a debit card entrusted to her by her local employer to buy £1,500 worth of Christmas presents for her children and relatives.

The woman hung her head as she admitted to 15 charges yesterday at the Magistrates’ Court, including seven counts of theft from debit card transactions ranging from £26 to £440.

In total she stole £1,527 after the card was used locally in six different shops to buy mobile phones, jewellery and a television.

She also pleaded guilty to seven charges of fraud by false representation for the debit card transactions.
