Drugs worth £5.25m recovered from sea

An additional 13 bales of cannabis resin have been fished out British Gibraltar territorial waters following Tuesday’s haul, bringing the total to 35 bales.

The additional find was recovered yesterday afternoon by the Royal Gibraltar Police Marine Section, who found nine bales, with the assistance of the Gibraltar Defence Police, who fished out the remaining four bales.

This brings the total drugs seized today to 35 bales with a street value of approximately £5.25 million.

On Tuesday HM Customs officers recovered 22 bales of cannabis worth £2.5 million. The drugs are believed to have been jettisoned by drug smugglers but no arrests have been made.
