GBC Open Day receives great community support
The GBC Open Day once again received great support from the whole of the community. Radio Gibraltar broke all records by raising a staggering £42,403 throughout the day at the Piazza. From early yesterday morning the crowds supported the Radio Gibraltar presenters and staff at the Piazza with donations and messages helping to break their fundraising efforts. The weather proved a great asset as many made their way to town to be a part of the event.
The GBC Open Day is a long standing tradition in this community and the biggest charity event of the year. There were 100 songs to choose from this year and many joined in.
Head of Radio Gibraltar James Neish said: “It’s been another marathon broadcast for charity, we started at 7am. It’s great to see so much support and enthusiasm and find so much support for our fundraising efforts”.
Last night the show moved to television with a live broadcast from the John Mackintosh Hall. There were live performances and numerous features recorded especially for the show. This year saw the return of the treasure hunt with some 150 participants.
By midnight close to £100,000 had been raised.
