Jail for ‘irresponsible’ driver in Devil’s Tower crash
A ‘grossly irresponsible’ driver who crashed his car while racing on Devil’s Tower Road at over 100km per hour, leaving his passenger in a coma, was jailed for two years yesterday.
The 26 year old man admitted to driving dangerously and causing grievous bodily harm in an incident two years ago when he lost control of his car.
Prosecutor Robert Fischel, QC, told the Supreme Court that the defendant was speeding down Devil’s Tower Road at an estimated speed of 117kmph.
The court heard how the 26-year old was “racing and chasing” another vehicle and witnesses described the noise emanating from the cars as similar to the sound of a plane on take-off.
