John Mackintosh Hall Library enters digital age

Over 17,000 books in the John Mackintosh Hall Library have been categorised electronically as the library enters the digital age and brings things up to speed.

The online catalogue was launched yesterday, to coincide with today’s World Book Day, and is the first part of the digitisation of all libraries in Gibraltar which will form part of a new Library Forum.

Steven Linares, Minister for Culture, paid tribute yesterday to the hard work of the JMH team to keep the library running despite a mountainous cataloguing task.

“I heard the librarians say that they were merely workers, but this project would have not come to be were it not for them,” he said before turning to the librarian team that was present.

“You are the most important people in this initiative.”
