Making the public a part of the art work.

The first exhibition as part of a Gibraltar-Berlin Artist Exchange residency programme closes today at the Gustavo Bacarisas Gallery.

Showing the work of both local artist Alan Perez and Berlin artist Max Sunhues – this is an exhibition of contemporary works. The exhibitions displays the works created by Max whilst in Gibraltar and joint works with Alan Perez, and those created by Alan whilst in Berlin.

Mr Perez was the first artist to travel to Berlin for an artist exchange programme.

As part of this programme, Berlin-based artist Mr Sudhues was chosen to come to Gibraltar to carry out an art residency.

Both artists thanked everyone who had helped them along their art residency journey.

Opening the exhibition Culture Minister Steven Linares said the project was a collaboration of different artists from around Europe and around the world.

“I have always said that art is not just a picture on the wall. Art is more than that. There is much more to say in the art and these are artist’s interpretations.”

Also present at the opening, which was well attended by many the Rock’s young aspiring artists, was local artist Francis Gomila who is based in Berlin and artist director of Lichtenberg Studios Uwe Jonas.

Mr Sudhues and Mr Perez have created pieces that have been inspired and influenced by their impressions and perceptions of their time spent in Gibraltar and Berlin respectively. The artists’ innovative site-specific works are unique multi-media artworks which will delight visitors of all ages.

The exhibition opens today at 9.30am and will close at 7.30pm. Entrance is free.
