Local maestro scores great success in Paris, Munich and New York

Local conductor Karel Mark Chichon has recently celebrated a successful debut at the Paris Opera.

Last December he celebrated a highly successful debut at the Paris Opera conducting eight performances of ‘La Traviata’.

Maestro Chichon has been commended in foreign press has doing an “admiral job” as with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Opera in Paris.

The Gibraltarian Maestro also continues his relationship with the Bavarian State Opera, considered the leading opera house in Germany, where he conducted ‘Carmen’ last month to great acclaim and where he returns in April to conduct ‘Madama Butterfly’.

The Metropolitan Opera New York recently announced their new season 2019/20 where Maestro Chichon will conduct eight performances of ‘La Traviata’, following his highly successful debut some years ago.

In 2022 the Maestro returns again to the Metropolitan Opera this time conducting ‘Rigoletto’ and in so doing becomes part of an exclusive group of conductors who return regularly to this respected opera house, which is considered by many as the leading opera house in the world.

Maestro Chichon’s operatic engagements form part of his other engagements as a symphonic conductor, where recently he has scored great success in the new release of a CD with music by Prokofiev, Stravinsky and Falla which have been very well received by critics worldwide.

The American music magazine ‘Fanfare’ named this CD among their top five CD’s of 2018.

He also continues to enjoy great success in his new position as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Orquesta Filarmonica de Gran Canaria, with what has been labelled as a historic performance of Mahler’s Second Symphony that opened the 2018/19 season.

Maestro Chichon will remain in Gran Canaria until 2023 following a recent extension to his original contract.
