Open Day Christmas charity single with local artists

So Glad It’s Christmas - the official charity Christmas single by local artists in aid of the GBC Open Day is being released today.

The project is backed by u-mee and the song was written by local singer-songwriter Guy Valarino.

The recording features local artists Jetstream, Frontiers and Dani Bujega and Dani Fa who also produced and arranged the track.

u-mee are looking for all of Gibraltar’s help to make this a hit. They would like everyone to share with friends locally, in the UK and beyond in order to help them raise funds for local causes whilst showing support for local music artists as well. Everyone is encouraged to pre-order the song now for just 99p on iTunes and Amazon (links could be tweeted/ FB on official Radio Gibraltar socials) and the download will be available as from Friday 16 December and can then be added to their Christmas playlists.

A spokesperson for Umee said they saw this project as part of their wider efforts in the community but specifically in the arts and music.

“We also sponsor the Literary Festival every year and have previously been involved with GMF and also provided support for the artists involved in this charity project. We think that the quality of the work emanating from Gibraltar is extraordinary but due to the lack of scale of big promotional outlets, we’re doing our best to try to give all the artists a higher profile and we are now looking for the power of Gibraltar to give them an even bigger boost.”

Umee has been working with the GBC Open Day team since it all started and thought this was a great way to encourage community participation and engagement with a song that’s chart-worthy.

Guy Valarino explains the song was written a couple of years ago but he had only ever recorded an acoustic demo of it.

“u-mee liked the song and re-recorded a verse and chorus for an animated spot they created last year. They thought a full version would make a great Christmas single to raise funds for the GBC Open Day and so they curated the project calling upon a few local artists to record it.”

The sales between now and the week commencing Friday 16 December  will affect the charts, said the spokesperson for u-mee.

“So this is a real opportunity for local music fans to make a difference to good causes whilst supporting local artists by making this song a great success!”
