Picardo meets Johnson at JMC

Chief Minister Fabian Picardo met Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson yesterday on the sidelines of the Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council in London.

Speaking in front of other delegates, Mr Johnson reminded the Chief Minister of the clear position he had expressed to Spain, including the UK’s double-lock commitment on sovereignty.

It is understood that those commitments will be included in the statement at the close of the JMC meeting, although had not yet been issued as this edition went to press.

The discussions at the meeting were dominated by Brexit, with many overseas territories deeply concerned about the potential impact of the UK’s withdrawal, particularly on border issues.
