Police appeal for witnesses after assault on a woman

The Royal Gibraltar Police are appealing for witnesses after a 28-year old local woman was assaulted at Line Wall Road last Saturday.

The woman required treatment for injuries to her arms and face from an assault that took place between 1.50am and 2am.

“We’re aware that this type of incident can cause concern within our community, however, we’d like to reassure the community that an extensive investigation has been underway since the incident was reported to us over the weekend,” Detective Inspector Roy Perez said.

“This incident and witness appeal is unrelated to the assault that occurred at Casemates Square on Sunday 30th October, which we continue to investigate separately.”

The RGP request anyone present or passing through the areas of Fish Market Road or Line Wall Road between 1.30am and 2am on Saturday to contact New Mole House as soon as possible via tel: 20072500 or email: cid@royalgib.police.gi.

On hearing the news the Gibraltar Women’s Association released a statement detailing their concern.

“Gibraltar has always been considered as relatively safe compared to other European cities but attacks on women seem to be on the increase,” a spokeswoman said.

“We will be discussing possible solutions on this matter with relevant local authorities as priority, but encourage all women to take extra care when walking alone and to either walk with a friend, get a taxi or stay within lit up more populated areas when returning home after dark.”
