The Proms comes to Gibraltar

The Gibraltar Philharmonic Society and Turicum Private Bank will present the first ever ‘Gibraltar Proms’ at the Alameda Open Air Theatre on May 23.

The Gibraltar Turicum Proms offers an informal environment for audiences of all ages to enjoy a chamber orchestra concert in a more relaxed and accessible atmosphere.

For 20 years the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society has been bringing the highest quality of music to audiences in Gibraltar.

A fundamental part of the Society’s mission is to offer the opportunity to engage with and experience music through specially tailored and distinct strands of activity.

“As we celebrate the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society’s 20th Anniversary we are delighted to bring the Proms to Gibraltar,” said James Lasry, Chairman, Gibraltar Philharmonic Society.

“For many years we have been undertaking ground-breaking work to leverage cultural change to make classical music accessible to everyone. We are very proud to have Turicum Private Bank joining us in this mission and we are truly excited to share the gift of music with you.”

The event will be held at 8pm on Thursday, May 23, with tickets currently on sale.

“We are extremely happy to sponsor the first local “Promenade Concert” organised by the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society in its 20th anniversary,” said Andreas Businger, CEO, Turicum Private Bank.

“This event aims to offer an exceptional classical music programme to the widest possible audience of our community in the unique setting of the Alameda Open Air Theatre. We are proud to make this happen for the first time and to also allow the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society to maintain its known artistic excellence with the support of Turicum Private Bank.”

Tickets priced at £20 are available from Sacarello’s coffee shop and restaurant in Irish Town and The Silver Shop at 222 Main Street or online at www.buytickets.gi .

A limited number of tickets at £10.00 are available to senior citizens via the John Mackintosh Hall at 308 Main Street. Some tickets have been pre-booked and space is limited.

The Society advise people to book early to avoid disappointment.
