Tickets offered for annual National Celebrations boat procession 

Members of the public without access to their own boat will for the first time be able to buy tickets to take part in Gibraltar’s annual National Celebrations boat procession on September 8. 

Tickets will cost £15 and can be purchased from the Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned Bookshop, with all proceeds donated to charity. 

The annual procession, announced by the Self Determination for Gibraltar Group, will begin at 7.30pm and will include the traditional blessing of the sea and vessels, as well as an act of remembrance for those who have lost their lives at sea. 

The event is open to everyone in Gibraltar regardless of religious affiliation. 

It is being organised by the Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe and Gibraltar Cultural Services, with assistance from the Royal Navy Gibraltar Squadron, Dolphin Adventure, Steven Segui on behalf of the Cormorant Camber Boat Owners Club, the Royal Gibraltar Police, the Gibraltar Port Authority, Customs, the Gibraltar Defence Police and the Department of the Environment. 

As in previous years, boats will make their way in procession to the South Mole, where natural flowers will be laid in remembrance of those who have lost their lives at sea.

Alternatively, participating boats can muster at sea off Coaling Island at 7.20pm ahead of the procession starting at 7.30pm. 

Participants are encouraged to take Gibraltar flags and to bring only natural flowers.
