3G pitches safe according to UK study

A doctor at England's only FIFA-accredited artificial pitch-testing lab has put his seal of approval on 3G pitches, saying that crumb rubber is no more dangerous than a child's toy.

This follows a study in the USA claiming that the material on artificial surfaces- made from recycled tyres – could cause cancer.

The findings suggested that goalkeepers were more at risk of contracting the illness due to their increased contact with the substance.

Gibraltar’s 3G pitch at the Victoria Stadium was supplied by Limonta Sport, a FIFA preferred producer for Football Turf based in Italy, distributing synthetic turf since 1979.
