Complex glasshouse will mark Alameda bicentenary
In celebration of the Alameda Gardens upcoming 200th anniversary, a glasshouse called ‘Bicentenary House’ will be unveiled to the public later this month.
It is expected to be fully completed within the next two weeks, just ahead of the bicentennial anniversary on April 14.
Director of the Botanic Gardens Dr Keith Bensusan said the gardens had been planning for construction of the glasshouse for almost four years.
Bicentenary House has been split in two parts. One side will house tropical plants where a hot, humid temperature is key, while the other side will house succulent plants which thrive in arid conditions.
