Special Olympics Gibraltar (SOG) will be sending a team of seven athletes to compete in the Special Olympics Sweden Invitational Games 2026, taking place in Malmö from September 4 to 6.
The international Games will bring together up to 2,000 participants from Sweden and 25 other countries, competing across 11 sports. Organisers describe the event as the largest sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities ever held in Sweden. The Games will be a major celebration of sport and inclusion.
Gibraltar will be competing in the athletics and golf events. Six athletes—Alexandra Perera, Daniella Vinent, Hannah Colton, Jesse Dos Santos, Mark Dos Santos and Max Desoiza—will compete in individual track races. Daniella, Hannah, Jesse and Max will also combine to represent Gibraltar in the mixed relay.
In golf, Julian De Las Heras will compete in the 9-hole event.
The Gibraltar team will leave the Rock on Wednesday, September 2, travelling from Málaga Airport to Copenhagen before continuing by train to Malmö, where they will be based during the Games. The delegation is due to return to Gibraltar in the early hours of Tuesday, September 8.
The Games will feature a wide range of sporting events at venues throughout Malmö, including athletics at Heleneholms IP and golf at Malmö Burlöv Golf Club in Segevång.
Special Olympics Gibraltar wishes all seven athletes every success as they prepare to represent Gibraltar and demonstrate the determination, sportsmanship and spirit of inclusion that are at the heart of the Special Olympics movement.
