Chinese migrant bailed after eight months in jail

A victim of human trafficking who spent eight months detained in Gibraltar’s prison awaiting deportation to China was released on bail last Friday.

Kwan Hung Sit was one of three Chinese nationals arrested in Gibraltar last year having flown to the UK from the Rock on forged passports given to them by their traffickers.

After seven extensions to the men’s initial 28-day detention order – spent at HM Windmill Hill prison - two of them were deported back to China on Easter Monday.

But Mr Hung Sit remained in prison because his travel documents had not arrived and officials were still trying to match up his identity.
