MS Serenissima in inaugural ‘turnaround’ visit to the Rock

MS Serenissima is in Gibraltar on its inaugural visit to the Rock. She arrived on Monday and will be carrying out a turnaround before departing the Rock tomorrow.

The vessel belongs to the British cruise firm Noble Caledonia Ltd and has a gross tonnage of 2,598 tonnes, a length of 87 metres, capacity for 110 passengers and a crew complement of 50. Entertainment has been organised by the Gibraltar Tourist Board for the visiting tourists who have attended a concert in St Michael’s Cave by the Gibraltar Youth Choir under the directorship of Christian Santos.

Built in 1960, the handsome 100-passenger vessel began its career as the Harald Jarl, cruising the Norwegian coastline and fjords. Extensively renovated in 2003 it was subsequently rechristened MS Andrea as a classic cruise ship, and was chartered by Noble Caledonia for a number of years. It was renamed the MS Serenissima in 2012.

The MS Serenissima is considered as a perfect vessel for small ship cruising as it can navigate into small, remote ports which are inaccessible to the large cruise ships. The local ship agent for the MS Serenissima is MH Bland.
