Aerial acrobatics over Gibraltar

DCIM100GOPRO

This spectacular shot of the Rock was taken from one of the planes that performed aerial acrobatics over the Rock on National Day.

It shows pilots Peter Wells and Chris Burkett flying in close proximity as they perform a mirror formation over the runway.

One plane is inverted, with the other flying underneath just feet away.

The pilots from the Twister Aerobatics Team put on a stunning display of precision, gravity-defying routines that thrilled the thousands watching from the safety of land.

Up in the air though, conditions had proved challenging.

“The display on Saturday off the eastern beaches was just about the most difficult display I have ever done, out of hundreds,” Chris said.

“The turbulence off the Rock was so extreme it was almost unflyable. So we were a bit disappointed but we absolutely did our best!
