Awards presented for annual Christmas Flower Show

The Gibraltar Horticultural Society recently held an award ceremony for their annual Christmas show at the John Mackintosh Hall.

The Minister for Equality Samantha Sacramento presented the awards alongside President of the Horticultural Society Maurice Gache.

This year’s flower show was a new category join the fold with the Beginner’s Entries section.

The Society introduced this as a measure to encourage those entering a GHS competition for the first time to show their work without the pressure of competing against more experience entrants.

Laurie Canessa judged the competition having enjoyed horticulture as a hobby for the past 20 years.

This was Ms Canessa’s first time judging a competition.

Winners for this year’s Christmas show were Rose Tilbury in the wreath category, Emily Borg for her side arrangement, Suzanne Gache with her candlestick, Jean Penney won two prizes for centrepiece and seasonal decoration and Lorraine Povedeno won the beginner’s entries competition.

Suzanne Gache was also presented with a special present from the GHS executive committee for her work running workshops for two different groups.

Ms Gache ran wreath making workshops at the John Mackintosh Hall and another at the Ministry of Defence Four Corners complex.

The award ceremony was followed by the GHS Christmas party at the John Mackintosh Hall.
