Netherlands to Gibraltar bike ride

A good friend of Special Olympics Gibraltar, Mr Jelle Mars from Groningen, Netherlands, will be arriving in Gibraltar on Tuesday after completing a bike ride from Netherlands to Gibraltar.
Mr Mars is hoping to raise funds for the charity “Special Child” through the sponsorship of his 3,000km bike ride which will take him from Groningen to Gibraltar.
“Special Child is a children’s charity which encourages disabled children into sport and which in turn often leads to recruitment into the ranks of Special Olympics athletes It provides the children with sports facilities and sportswear to stimulate them into trying a sport,” explained Gibraltar Special Olympics media spokesperson Andrew Rammage. The charity is currently collaborating with foundations in five regions worldwide to provide children with sporting opportunities. Me Mars’ endeavours has already seen him raise over EUR 1,600 in online donations via https://www.whydonate.nl/donate/road-to-africa/nl .

Mr Mars became a friend of Gibraltar Special Olympics football team during their visit to the Netherlands last year at the Special Olympics European Football Tournament.
He will be completing the final leg of his bike ride accompanied by retired Royal Gibraltar Police Inspector Ian Howe’s, himself a cyclist and trail runner. On arrival in Gibraltar on Tuesday, where he is expected to arrive at 12.30 pm he is expected to be greeted by a welcoming party from Special Olympics Gibraltar.
