Blue buses raised in Parliament
The Gibraltar Government sold 14 of the old blue buses to Calypso tours, the company which operates the number five bus from the frontier to Market Place.
The buses were sold for £15,000, Minister for Transport Paul Balban revealed during a question and answer session in Parliament yesterday.
Asked by GSD MP Trevor Hammond if any of these buses are in service to the public, Mr Balban said: “Yes, of all the buses that were transferred over…a few are, out of all the buses they put a few together.”
This point drew words of caution from the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo who stressed that the Minister was only giving an ‘impression’ and that the Government does not know what Calypso is doing with the buses.
An additional two buses are currently used for driver training purposes while another two, described as “completely beyond economical repair” were donated to the Airport Fire Services also for training purposes.
