Calpe Rowing Club competes in the first regatta of the 25th edition of the ‘Copa de Andalucia’

Calpe Rowing club took part in the Copa de Andalusia where thirteen clubs from Seville together with a host of other rowing clubs from Andalucia competed over a distance of 7.5km for Seniors, Juniors and Cadetes and 1km for Infantiles and Alevines on the Rio Guadalquivir. Calpe had a total of 28 juniors and seniors competing over a range of age categories in different boat classes.
The 7.5km ‘Prueba de fondo’ tested the stamina and endurance of Gibraltar’s athletes with wins for Thomas Zammit ( Cadete single sculls) and the double of James Rovegno and Louis Santos ( Juvenil double sculls). The rest of the team performed well and were pleased with their times according to officials.
In the junior events where they raced over 1km, Julia Anson recorded a second place finish in single sculls and Lily Rogers and Maia Norton a third place finish in double sculls. The juniors say officials have gained much experience in racing at this level in a highly competitive environment and look forward to the next set of races in February 2022.
