Calpeans lead the way again after two races

It was another Calpeans win as the GAAA entered its second race of the GibFibre Road Racing league.
A 6.5KM runner from Line Wall Road to Europa Pool by Camp Bay before returning south to finish at Midtown Park was to prove a test for some runners. Sergi Esquival Vega, one of the favorites forced to stop halfway through the race as he left Camp Bay and losing ground after a great start in the first stretch of the race. The Calpean ending 20th in a 46 male category ranking.
It was Javier Diaz Carretero who was to take pole position, bettering his previous race finish where he had finished second.
Lourdians new runner Ben Reeves was to finish just 25 seconds behind in what was a tightly contested race. Leon Gordon finishing third with Carpe Diem runner DanAn Truong showing that his running club is not just about leisure/recreational runners as he finished fourth with a time of 21.29. Just a minute and a half behind the leader.
The race was to see a total of 46 male runners compete including GBC sports reporter Robin Sheppard Capurro, finishing with a time a decent time of 36.30.
In the women’s category the numbers were once again low with just twelve females competing.
Kim Baglietto was to take pole position with a 22.48. Finishing within the top ten overall (including the mens category).
Alexa Burger from Carpe Diem was to finish second with a time of 25.24, again with a very respectable 28th position overall from a field of 58.
The latest results sees Calpeans leading in the men’s team category with Lourdians A and B directly behind them, followed by Carpe Diem.
In the women’s team category Lourdians A continue favorites leading the table with Carpe Diem A following behind. The return of Carpe Diem in the Road Runners league providing additional competition, especially among the women’s category where only Lourdians and Carpe Diem have teams running.
