Car flips in serious accident

A 55-year-old local man was involved in a “serious traffic accident” yesterday when his car flipped upside down on Winston Churchill Avenue.

The incident took place at 1.30pm yesterday at the junction by Glacis Road, when a red Renault car overturned for reasons yet to be established.

A Royal Gibraltar Police spokesman told the Chronicle the driver was conveyed to St Bernard’s Hospital but had not sustained any serious injuries.

Passers-by stopped to watch as police officers and firefighters accessed the situation.

Traffic came to a halt at Glacis Road with vehicles diverted south along Bayside Road and Corral Road.

Motorists were urged to drive carefully following the incident due to an oil spill but within an hour and a half traffic was cleared.

An RGP spokesman said that although the incident looked dramatic, the car had not suffered extensive damage.

Investigations into the cause of the accident continue.
