Gibraltar gains international support to counter Spanish pressure in sport
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) will support Gibraltar’s fight to gain acceptance into sports federations which deny the Rock’s entry due to political pressure from Spain.
Louise Martin, CGF President, said that she was unaware of the political challenges often faced by Gibraltarian sporting bodies but would support Gibraltar in any way.
“I will speak to anybody on your behalf,” she said as she pulled away from the CGF’s Executive Board meeting at the Sunborn Hotel for an interview with this newspaper.
“I understand that there is political tension there, but in sport, as far as I am concerned, all sportsmen and women should be treated as equals and should be allowed to participate wherever they want.”
