Customs officer injured in violent tobacco clash
A local Customs officer was injured during a violent clash with smugglers at the border fence near the tunnel construction site yesterday.
Three Customs officers were attacked when they tried to stop a group of around four smugglers attempting to throw two cases of cigarettes into Spain, according to a Customs spokesman.
The smugglers reacted aggressively and were joined by a number of other men who jumped over the fence, forcing the local officers to draw batons.
